Addressing the Many Challenges of Shift Work

Shift work is becoming more common among businesses with many companies working 24/7. Businesses are faced with balancing the benefits of shift work with some of the more common challenges when going to second and third shifts. We will discuss the affects of shift work on the employer, the employee and the employee's family. How the sleep cycle is influenced, effects on your general health, and effects of shift work on company morale. The probability of an increase in error and changes in productivity that are also caused by shift work will be covered. Employee safety issues that need to be addressed by the employer and employee, as well as practical ways to minimize the negative effects of shift work on the employee and their family will also be discussed.

Ergonomics and Return to Work Issues

Whether regulations or guidelines require it, ergonomics and the return-to-work process are a necessary and sensible partnership. It all begins with the recognition of human limitations and system demands. The greatest determinant of days away from work and disability profile is the psychosocial situation, not the medical situation of the incident. Managing the psychosocial issues throughout the return-to-work situation and after re-integration is vital. This presentation will discuss how to integrate ergonomics into the return-to-work process and address the psychosocial issues as well.
