Linda will discuss a brief overview of silica and will discuss the differences between the 1996 Special Emphasis Program and recent National Emphasis Program (NEP). She will talk about how the NEP may effect your workplace, specific abrasive blasting work practices, medical monitoring, and OSHA's outreach responsibility for informing affected employers.

A brief overview of the guidelines for OSHA ID-142, different types of cyclones, correctly obtaining bulk samples, and the new calculation for construction and maritime. He will include determining compliance and comparing general industry guidelines to construction/maritime guidelines.

Linda will present information learned from various field projects, evaluating MSDSs, OSHA e-tools, and ACGIH Threshold Limit Values versus OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits. She will provide a perspective that will provide industrial hygienists some interesting findings from which need to be considered in projects where silica may be an issue.
