Environmental Air Monitoring during remediation projects: A risk management investment

As industrial hygienists we are familiar with occupational air monitoring to determine exposure of workers to hazards in the workplace. However, you may be less familiar with how the principals of air monitoring can be applied to remediation projects to limit the potential liability associated with these projects. This presentation will outline the principals associated with designing an effective air monitoring program and review the range of field method options as well as discuss the value of performing environmental air monitoring during remediation projects.

Exposure Control Bands – Are we ready for it?

The EU is aggressively seeking support for a new type of exposure limits called Exposure Control Bands (ECB). Instead of updating each OSHA PEL, ECB's offer a simple way to implement exposure chemical controls using generic categories of risk based upon either qualitative or quantitative information. The motivation for simplicity arises out of the need to service Small to Medium Establishments (SMEs) and developing nations.
