DuPont's Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Culture

The presentation will generally cover how DuPont's HSE culture has developed, important factors that distinguish the DuPont method from others, and how we continue to improve on a good program. We have all heard of behavioral safety and how it can impact (for better or worse) the working environment, but what does one put in place to support improved HSE management and results? DuPont has over a 200 year history of HSE culture development, as well as implementation experience inside and outside of our company. We will review the historical basis for Safety (HSE) in DuPont and provide practical insight into how it is carried out in a plant site in the 21st century.

Key factors and strategies that have produced the best outcomes will be presented. A mini-training will give participants a better understanding of how unsafe attitudes and behaviors can be changed.

Creating a Culture to Deliver Sustainable HSE Performance

In nearly all major incidents that industry has experienced, culture has been consistently identified as a systemic root cause of the incident. HSE Culture has a causal relationship with HSE performance. To drive and sustain HSE performance, improving culture is foundational. This presentation covers the background on several culture models and presents the results and action plans from a cultural assessment performed in one of our field operations with a multi cultural workforce.

Regulatory HSE Cultural Influences on Risk Management

This paper compares the United States' consequence based approach to managing the LNG risk with other approaches taken by the rest of the world. Regardless of the country, the risk management methodologies remain largely unchanged but experiences in each individual country remarkably mirror their form of government or regulatory administration. The different risk based approaches applied to the LNG industry in different regions are outlined fully in this paper. The risk based approach is the only way to effectively manage the LNG risks that can potentially cause harm to workers, third parties and to the asset.
